So this will be a 2 part review one of my initial thoughts and one after the seasons conclusion for a final over look of the products strong and weak points. Hope you enjoy this review.   I received the 2 different scent sticks just as I would have gotten them from the dealer or sporting goods store.  I immediately noticed that the label is nicely decorative and makes the entire line of scents easily recognizable from each other. This is a plus in my book cause I am the worst to just get up and go hunting without having planned the night before. So the ease of identification will be a huge plus. Cannot tell you how many times I have the wrong Tink's scent bombs in my pack because I am in a hurry. Another nice thing about the labels is that it totally seals the stick so you do not have to worry about the product leaking and losing its potency in shipping, a plus for end user and dealers alike, ever be in a sporting good store when the shipment arrives and the red fox urine has been cracked while on the truck, it is not good for anyone I assure you.   After a small wrestling event with the label I finally get my "Earth Scent" opened, I immediately remove the cap and go for the big whiff. I was expecting a dirty muddy smell that many hunters would assume by the term Earth. I was pleasantly surprised by a kind of pine, mossy, fallen leaves smell indicative to any woods you have ever stepped foot in. I immediately drew back looked at the label and smelled again. thinking this was a mistake I contacted Trophy Blend and spoke to good ole' Mark. He chuckled an assured me I had the right stuff, he then went on to explain that instead of a dirt smell he wanted to go with a woodsy au' natural scent. he wanted this to be a universal cover scent that could be used in Colorado as effectively as in South Carolina. I believe he might have a winner as I have pulled it out and let others smell it and they have had the same impression I had, smells like the woods. I even had a friend tell me it reminds him of a river he hunts near with a waterfall about 300 yard up from his stand. He is kind of weird like that but kills deer so I will not hesitate for his opinions.   The next scent I was interest in using was the Whitetail Blend Estrus. I was hesitant to whiff this one cause I new what I would be getting into here. I did it any way.  Once I was able to look at my wife and see her laughing at me I can guarantee you it smell like doe pee pee.  As I was writing this I had my 7 year old nephew over and he was tinkering around like little boys do, playing with some of my deer calls he says "What is this?" as he opens it and smells it he bawls "PEEEEEEYEWWWWW".  I had to laugh.   Any way back to the review.   As I do not dare test this Whitetail scent in the house, I will leave the rest of its review for the second part, the one out in the field.   As the Earth scent does not offend anyone I decided to try it on a few items of clothing in my house and put them in my dedicated hunting closet. I applied the stick to the clothing I would be wearing soon to the field.  Now most of my hunting clothes have been treated to a hardwood smoking but I was sure that this stuff would add to the scent. I applied it and left it over night. Right off hand the first thing I realized is that sprays are easier to apply to clothing that n swiping a stick over every inch of you clothing. maybe because it is in stick form it will last longer, we will see in the morning. Also I decided this was something I would definitely need to do before going hunting. Like the night before. remember earlier when I said I was a spontaneous hunter? we will have to address this in the part two review.  Another point to bring up is that the label clearly states this is to be used on outer garments only. After a quick chat with the owner/developer I find out that some peoples skin may not tolerate the oils used in the scent stick and to use at ones own discretion. In other words do not go full body with this without testing it on a small area first.   On first impressions this product will be a nice addition to my arsenal, I may not use the cover scent as much as the attractant but only time will tell.  This is the end of part one, I will continue this review after seer season and I have had time to work with the attractant in the field.   Happy Hunting guys! |
